The British Horse Society have released a short video promoting responsible use of shared spaces by all who access the outdoors in Northern Ireland.
With more multi-use trails being developed across Northern Ireland it is important we all play our part in being mindful of other users whether on foot, bike or horseback. WalkNI are encouraging walkers to follow these simple steps:
- When entering car parks be mindful of horses coming out of designated horse parking areas. Slow down when passing.
- “Be nice, say hi” – be polite and respect others. Multi use trails such as Drumkeeragh will have clear signage as to where the horse trail is located.
- Ensure you pass horses and others safely – if you’re unsure, stop
- Keep dogs on a lead and under close control
WalkNI are encouraging you also to familiarise yourself with designated walking routes. For your own safety please follow waymarkers where possible and avoid straying onto Mountain Bike trails! This has become an increasing problem at Rostrevor Mountain Bike Trails.
